Album Spotlight: The Sunstreak
September 25th, 2008Packed with a universal load of pop-rock punch, the-six track EP from the Rochester-born swooners in The Sunstreak is just as satisfying -- if not more so -- as a full-length album.
The music mixes simplistic yet sophisticated musical structure with emotional lyrics that make your heart melt (like a sixteen year old who's just been asked to the prom by her dream date). Combining today's sometimes robustly passionate notes with classical elements of rock and roll (think the Beatles meet the Killers, or Hoobastank jamming with Mae), Top Secret exposes The Sunstreak's wide-ranging talents.
Take
Here I Go Again
, where the chorus consists of the
words "all I need to do is find a new way to say I love
you," while the dramatic instrumentation demonstrates that this
bright young quintet has already found a new way to play a lovesick
puppy in song -- using to-the-point melodies and out-of-this-world
hooks.
And then there's
Great White Coma
(what a name!),
immediately spitting out the ingeniously thought-provoking line
"We live in a lonely life / all alone in a lonely fight,"
and setting the tone for another five tracks filled with wit and
infectious instrumentation.
All this was realized shortly after the Sunstreak reserved a stage for themselves at the 2006 Vans Warped Tour -- for the small price of flipping enough burgers for every act to eat each night -- and it quickly became apparent that these five guys have what it takes to sky rocket to the top.

I met The Sunstreak at warped tour! They were so incredibly nice, and covered me in streaker stamps. I had so much fun talking to them, and I got their CD for free because I bought a T-shirt. The case is signed and hanging on my wall, and the CD is in my car and on my iPod, of course! I’m going to wear it out!!! I love The Sunstreak and I know every word to every song! <3

I met them at Warped also (and subsequently got molested by the Streaker stamps! haha). They are quality guys, for sure, and thank God those good looking boys know how to sweet talk me otherwise I wouldn’t have bought the cd/shirt. And then I wouldn’t know the magic that is The Sunstreak! I can’t imagine my life without them!
